RUNNING the gauntlet of takeaway establishments along Darwen Street it was nice to find at least one which offers good old fish and chips.

And every credit to the Happy Haddock for cooking two fish for me from scratch rather than serving up the one crispy looking one that was warming under a lamp.

Don't be fooled by the name. The Happy Haddock also offers pizzas, burgers, kebabs and even hot dogs.

At £5.60 for fish and chips twice, it's reasonably priced and the helpings were on the generous side.

The fish was a little bland and the batter, although not too greasy lacked a little flavour that you get with top notch chippies.

But for a town centre takeaway it certainly wasn't bad and we both cleared our plates which is always a good sign.
