THE moment Paul Barker saw Pink Floyd in concert on TV, his life changed forever. Catch his tribute band Off The Wall in Blackburn on September 15.
"It was just the most spectacular thing I'd ever seen," he said. "I just thought, I've got to do that'.
"If I could play with any band it would be Pink Floyd, but I don't think they'll have any vacancies for me."
Instead Paul formed Off the Wall, one of the world's leading Pink Floyd tribute band whose spectacular stage show has wowed thousands of fans across Europe.
Off the Wall begin their latest tour at King George's Hall, Blackburn, on Sepember 15 and fans can look forward to a total show experience.
"Everything you see and hear at one of our shows is live apart from the sound effects such as the cash registers for Money which we have to pre-record," said Paul.
"Pink Floyd were the first band to really do a big show and they originated the idea of a light show.
"So with our shows there is so much more than sitting there and listening to the record."
Pink Floyd have introduced some of the most spectacular stage effects ever seen on tour including model helicopters, building a 60ft wall and, of course, inflatable pigs.
"We did look into a pig," said Paul, "but it would cost £500 just to inflate one each time. But there may be things we can do with lights and effects."
As well as playing bass with the band, Paul is the technical wizard for the group and has spent a lot of time shooting and editing special films which accompany the band's numbers.
"I really enjoy the technical side and the combination of the artistic and the spectacle," he said.
Fans going along to King George's Hall can expect to hear many of Pink Floyd's classic songs.
"There are some songs which we really have to play," said Paul.
"I think if an audience didn't get the guitar solo from Comfortably Numb we wouldn't get out of the theatre. But for this tour there will be some surprises.
"We will be playing Sheep off the Animals album for instance for the first time.
"But the music evolves during a tour and moves on.
"We don't pretend to play them note for note like the record, they are our own interpretation of the songs.
"We have played in East Lancashire before and have always got a fantastic reception from the audiences there and we are really looking forward to coming to Blackburn to get the tour under way."
Off the Wall play King George's Hall, Blackburn, on Friday, September 15. For details, call the box office on 01254 582582.
