EIGHTY people joined in a fancy dress walk to raise over £5,000 in memory of a Blackburn two-year-old.
The annual walk in aid of Derian House Children’s Hospice is organised by Ray and Julie Heeks – parents of Eva Heeks who was left disabled after contracting a severe strain of meningitis when she was six days old.
The number of entrants trebled this year, owing to a bus donated by Moving People from Accrington, offering free transportation to walkers from Blackburn to Derian House in Chorley.
Ray said: “It was a really good atmosphere this year with the sunshine and more people than ever.
“Everyone was cheering us on and encouraging us over the finishing line.
“What also made it special was that some of the children who are being treated at Derian House came out to the starting line with their carers, and reminded us what we were doing it for.”
