Soldiers from the north west will be deployed to the former soviet republic of Kazakhstan on September 9 for a training exercise.
About 165 Territorial Army soldiers from 4th Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (4LANCS), will be trained in peace operation tactics with forces from Kazakhstan and the United States as part of the two week Exercise Steppe Eagle.
Lieutenant Colonel Richard Beatson, commanding officer of 4LANCS, said: "When British soldiers deploy on real-life operations it is common practice for them to have to work with foreign armies.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for soldiers from the North West to learn how to work alongside forces from other countries and develop skills in the unique challenges this brings, not least in terms of language barriers."
