A NEW range of real ales could be rolled out across Lancashire once a Pendle pub launches its own on-site micro-brewery.
When Don Hinchcliffe and Chris Storey bought the Greyhound Inn, Barnoldswick, last year, they envisaged setting up their own brewery somewhere down the line.
The pair are now set to go into business with one of their regulars, Mark Harrison, who has 10 years’ experience in home-brewing.
Landlord Don said: “When we spoke to Mark we realised he’d been through all the mistakes and had to throw a lot of stuff away.
“He didn’t want us to go down that road so he’s coming on board and we are going to be like his apprentices.
“Mark has been doing it for 10 years and has perfected it, but now we want to take it a stage further.
“We’ll be like the guinea pigs, so we’ll put it on in the pub and if it goes well, we will roll it out to other pubs.”
The three men met on Thursday night to discuss plans to set up the yet-to-be-named micro-brewery.
Mark, 45, said he had been home-brewing for a decade, but never set up commercially so the next step would be to register as a micro-brewery.
He said: “Over the years I have brewed every different style of beer, but I prefer ales like Moorhouse’s Blonde Witch and Pride of Pendle.
“My beer has got to quite a high standard and everybody has been telling me that I should sell it.
“I’ve got the equipment and the know-how, so we’re going to give it a go.”
Don and Chris bought the pub last year, snatching it from developers who wanted to knock it down and replace it with houses.
Because the pub is no longer brewery-owned, Don and Chris are free to brew and sell their own ales.
Don said the brewery might be named after the Greyhound, with beers called things like ‘Hair of the Dog’.
