A NEW canon is to be appointed by Blackburn Cathedral with a special role involving the community and interfaith relations.
The Dean of Blackburn, the Very Rev Christopher Armstrong, said: “This is a very important and ground breaking position which is a new venture by the cathedral and indeed one which is putting Blackburn on the map in many respects.
“The post holder will head up the internationally acclaimed exChange Project which seeks to explore the issues of living in a multi-faith community in the 21st century.
“The ‘new’ element in this post is that it will be coupled with responsibilities at Blackburn College where leadership and delivery of interfaith work will be a priority.
“Both the college authorities and the Cathedral Chapter are excited about this prospect, for the work is critical for our region and for the health of the nation.”
Interviews are to be held in July with the appointment taking effect after September 1.
