A DAD-TO-BE who went into business selling cannabis has been jailed after repeatedly supplying undercover police.

Ryan Stanworth, 22, then an addict and jobless, started dealing seven days after being given a community order.

When arrested, he told officers he had been ‘skint’ and his girlfriend was pregnant.

His deals were captured on film and when police raided his Burnley home they found snap bags, electric scales, and £75 cash, as well as cannabis and cocaine, the town’s crown court heard.

Stanworth, said to have turned his life around since the offences at the end of last year, was jailed for 12 months.

Stanworth, of Eldwick Street, admitted four charges of supplying cannabis, one count of being concerned in supplying the drug, and possessing cannabis and cocaine, between October and December.

Emma Kehoe, prosecuting, said undercover police met Stanworth during an operation in Burnley. He gave them his mobile phone number and told them he was dealing cannabis.

Stanworth sold drugs to officers four times and, on one occasion, got his girlfriend to supply them from their house as he said he was busy.

Mrs Kehoe said when questioned, he owned up, saying he and his girlfriend had money troubles and this was a way of getting out of them.

Stanworth, who had four previous convictions, will not face a Proceeds of Crime hearing.

Mark Stuart, for Stanworth, said he had made significant changes to his life.

At the time, neither the defendant, a qualified plasterer, nor his partner had been working, He said: “The defendant had got himself in a bad position and he went about getting out of it in comp-letely and utterly the wrong way.”
