BURNLEY'S ‘number one burglar’ has been jailed for six years – his second prison term in just over three months.

Crack cocaine addict Daniel Devlin, 38, dubbed the King of Spades by police, has left a trail of misery, theft and damage in his wake.

He has attacked home after home in the town in a relentless bid to fund his long-standing drug habit.

He has now committed around 400 offences during his ‘chaotic’ life.

Devlin was sentenced to five years in jail at the beginning of March for a £20,000 night-time house raiding campaign in Burnley.

This week, he was back at the town’s crown court again after owning up to another catalogue of offences.

The defendant, of Harling Street, Burnley, admitted burglary and had been committed for sentence by the town's magistrates, after being convicted of burglary.

He asked for 88 other offences to be taken into consideration.

Judge Beverley Lunt ordered the six-year term should start that day.

Devlin, a former heroin user, had been given the five-year term after admitting six burglaries and asking for two offences to be considered.

He has almost 200 previous convictions and on one earlier occasion when he faced sentence, he had asked for 97 offences to be considered.

The hearing was told the defendant was sorry for his actions, recognised the harm he had caused to victims and wanted to beat his addiction.

The court heard Devlin has left his many victims heartbroken, distraught, shaken and often unable to sleep after invading their homes.

At one house he stole the only photos of a newborn baby while his hauls have also included electrical and computer equipment, sentimental jewellery and cars.

The defendant, who started his life of crime when he was just 10, was given an anti-social behaviour order to try and stop him committing crime in 2007.

Police have said he is Burnley’s most prolific burglar.

Five years ago, officers identified Devlin as the King of Spades in an operation where the most wanted burglars were put on to a deck of cards.
