A TRICKSTER stole cash and jewellery from an 84-year-old Nelson woman after pretending to be from the water board.
Police said the man called on the woman and distracted her by asking her to help check the water pressure.
As she ran taps downstairs he went upstairs and stole items that also included her pension book.
The incident happened at 10am on Tuesday.
PC Phil Buck said: "It is important that residents remain alert and report anything suspicious to the police.
"Anyone who is concerned about the identity of a person at their door should check the callers ID and if possible contact the company the caller is claiming to be from. If you are suspicious, don't let them in and if they are genuine callers, they won't mind you being extra cautious."
