PUPILS were congratulated for their achievements at a special Accrington Academy awards evening.

They were recognised and commended for their progress and their attainment by staff last night.

Principal Andrew Bateman thanked the pupils for their hard work throughout the year.

And he predicted this year’s results would shoot up by 33 per cent with a 45 per cent pass rate in the summer.

The vice-chair of the governing body, Lillian Croston, welcomed everyone to the event last night and not only congratulated pupils but commended staff and pupils for their Ofsted inspection.

The school was rated good with outstanding features by Ofsted.

The Mayor of Hyndburn Councillor Colette McCormack presented subject awards.

Mr Bateman reminded pupils that the Academy aimed to bring out the best in everyone and said staff helped and encouraged pupils to make that happen.
