Once again preparations are now being made for the new season for playing Badminton in the area.
Following the Annual General Meeting of the Blackburn & District Badminton Association this week a decision was taken to establish that the league fall in line with other leagues in the Lancashire area.
As from the start of the new season teams will consist of six players - three ladies and three gents. In a match a total of nine events will be played, with each event consisting of two games.
This means that all players will play a total of six games of competitive badminton within a two hour period. Matches are played on a home and away basis throughout the season, which usually finishes at the end of April each year. This change of format should ensure that more teams wish to play and take part in competitive badminton, and enjoy what is an exciting sport and also helps us all keep fit. With the change of format a number of clubs not currently registered with the B & D B A have shown interest in joining. This means that we are offering any club or team who would like to play, to come and join us and register to play in weekly league matches, cup rounds and tournaments throughout the season. This invitation is open to all within the area.
Registration for the new season should ideally be completed by Tuesday 12th July or not later than Friday 15th July 2011. The following day sees the fixtures for the new season to be prepared.
Anyone interested or would like further information should contact Jean Wilson on 01254 582627 for a registration form, or for any information whatsoever to Martin Sales on 01254 885365 or martindsales@ntlworld.com. Copies of last years’ handbook are available should anyone wish to see how the league is run. Details can also be found on our website at www.blackburnbadminton.org.uk
