A TEENAGE girl left fighting for her life after a car crash which left one man dead has taken a turn for the worst.

Pregnant 17-year-old Jade Hopson of Hargreaves Street, Colne, was back in a critical condition just hours after eating her first meal after the crash.

Craig Johnson, stepfather, of Cotton Court, Colne said: "She had her first meal on Monday, we were really pleased, she had soup and ice cream.

"But I got a call from my wife and she told me Jade had taken a turn for the worst overnight.

"They have had to sedate her because her oxygen levels went right down and she's started getting more and more flashbacks to the accident so she won't keep still."

Lisa Johnson was called to the hospital at 4.30am on Tuesday to try to calm her daughter.

Her condition has been described as stable by Furness General Hospital Jade (pictured) was involved in a crash on the A590 between Bouth and Greenodd in Cumbria around 4.30am on Friday.

The BMW she was travelling in was reported stolen from Manchester Road, Nelson, in the early hours of Friday.

Jade and her boyfriend Benjamin Bird, 29, of Hargreaves Street, Colne, were pulled out of the wreckage and taken to Furness General Hospital in Cumbria.

Police divers later found the body of Ian Salton, 30, from Barrow, in a river running alongside the road.

Bird appeared before Furness magistrates on Monday charged with driving a stolen vehicle causing the death of another, and other motoring offences. He was remanded in custody.

Craig said: "I told my wife to get some rest, she's really scared and has not left Jade's side."
