PUPILS in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale have taken part in a competition to find out which school is the most clued-up on environmental and safety issues.
Rawtenstall St Paul's Constable Lee CE Primary School scooped the 2011 Big Green Safe Challenge trophy after coming top in the quiz.
Teams of four from 28 schools took part in the competition, at Burnley Football Club, and the contest probed pupils' knowledge about how to live in a more sustainable way, and stay safe on the roads when walking and cycling.
County Coun Tim Ashton, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Every team did extremely well in the competition and showed a real knowledge.
“It's fantastic that each of these schools is committed to improving safer travel in their neighbourhood.
“School Travel Plans help to promote sustainable travel to and from school and encourage families to think about using environmentally-friendly and healthy options.”
