A MAIN road was closed after a diesel spillage caused a road accident.

An elderly man in a Fiat Bravo skidded in Cog Lane, Burnley, at its junction with Accrington Road, around 8.30pm.

The man was uninjured and did not require hospital treatment. But he reported the slippery road surface to the authorities and at 10.30pm Lancashire County Council attended to clear the fuel.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “The mix of diesel and rain water made the road extremely slippery.”

After the surface was treated, the road was re-opened at 10.45pm.
