A CYCLE ride along former railway tracks from Blackburn to Clitheroe took place to celebrate National Bike Week.
The ride, from Witton Country Park in Blackburn, also marked the launch of a new ‘Cycling into Railway History’ leaflet, giving details of heritage sites in the area.
From the park, the route takes in the Leeds and Liverpool canal, before heading onto the trackbed of the former Harwood Loop, near Cunliffe.
Following the trackbed into Great Harwood, riders will continue on to Martholme Viaduct, then continue to Whalley to view the Whalley Arches from close quarters and on to Clitheroe.
The ride was led by Brian Haworth, local community rail development officer, and Nick Burton from Blackburn with Darwen Council.
Bikes and helmets are provided free of charge to all Beez card holders (otherwise a nominal fee of £1.80 applies for bike/helmet rental).
Councillor Dave Harling said: “This is a great initiative that will help people take in some of the best and most interesting places of heritage.”
