Rolls-Royce yesterday signed an exclusive deal with Airbus as it announced two engine contracts worth more than £190million.
The aerospace giant, which employs 1,000 in East Lancashire, will be the sole engine provider for the enhanced Airbus A350-1000.
The long-haul aircraft will be powered by the Trent XWB.
The fan blades for the engine are made at the Rolls -Royce plant in Barnoldswick.
The firm has also won a £37million contract to supply its V2500 engines to Gulf Air and a separate £154million deal with China Southern Airlines.
Speaking of the Airbus deal, Mark King, Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace president, said: “Trent XWB engines currently on test are proving to be the most advanced civil aero engines in the world today.”
