A MINI-revival is on the cards for a popular Burnley shopping street following the arrival of the town’s last remaining independent book store.
Bosses at Badger Books, which has left its longstanding home in Keirby Walk, was today due to reopen in Standish Street.
The route is a popular link between Burnley Central railway station and the Anchor retail park, home to Sainsbury’s and PC World.
Several fledgling outlets have begun to call Standish Street home over the past 12 months.
Other arts and creative ventures to flourish in Standish Street recently include the Artisan tea rooms and Going Dutch, the floral experts who relocated from Pendle.
New businesses, including footwear retailer Urban Sole, lingerie shop Martinez, Ihson Computers and hair salon Beautique, have revamped units there.
A Badger Books spokesman said: "It will be a fresh start for us and we hope people will support us.
"There is good car parking around there.”
Owner Gary Kingdon had called upon readers to support independent retailers in the face of stiff competition from supermarket chains and online book sites.
The new shop is situated next to Norman’s TVs, halfway down the parade, opposite the former Carlton Hotel, the Shanghai acupuncture clinic and a herbalists.
