THE number of luncheon club sittings in Pendle are set to be cut.
Proposals to be discussed at the borough council’s executive meeting on Thursday could see weekly sittings reduced from 12 to nine.
If agreed, seven community venues in Barnoldswick, Brierfield, Colne, Kelbrook, Nelson and Trawden would now host just one luncheon club each week.
Meanwhile the Railway Street Centre in Nelson would have two sittings each week.
The cuts are expected to save Pendle Council £20,000 and would come in on July 1.
Coun James Starkie, executive member for waste and environmental health, said: “The use of our luncheon clubs has been gradually declining over the last few years.
“That said, we know they are a vital part of everyday life for many of our older residents, providing not just a warm meal but regular company.”
