DELAYS have hit the North West motorway network this evening after a five-vehicle pile-up on the M62 which left about 50 people injured.
Dozens of primary school pupils from Bolton, who were travelling along the eastbound motorway, near to the junction 12 exit, are among the injured after the accident.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were called and found five vehicles, including the two coaches with the schoolchildren on, had been involved in the collision.
One of the coach drivers is being treated for a suspected broken leg and about 50 people are being treated for minor injuries.
Two lanes of the M62, close to junction 12, have been closed since the incident, at 3.10pm, and there are likely to be long delays.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
