A FRESH appeal has been made for help following a £1million arson attack in the middle of Burnley.
Up to 60 firefighters tackled a fierce blaze at the RDA Furniture Superstore in Spring Garden Mill, Plumbe Street last week.
Police have now confirmed early suspicions that the blaze was started deliberately, sometime between 11.30pm on Tuesday, June 7, and midnight.
The fire is thought to have been started behind the premises, next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal.
Sgt Nick Hodgeson from Burnley Police, said that the possiblity that the fire had been started accidentally had been ruled out.
He added: “I would urge anybody that has any information that could assist with our enquires to contact us.
“I would also appeal to shift workers, dog walkers or anyone that was in the area around the time that the fire started to contact police if they saw anything suspicious.
“Fortunately nobody was injured and an evacuation was not necessary but this was a substantial fire and the consequences could have been much worse.”
Potential witnesses are asked to call Lancashire Police on 08451 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
