LANCASHIRE’S regeneration leaders have just two weeks to settle on a location for an enterprise zone bid.
Members of the county’s local enterprise partnership (LEP) will take the final decision later this month with the winning site set for a huge boost if approved by Government.
Enterprise zones are expected to create thousands of new jobs with businesses lured by more relaxed planning regulations and a rates rebate.
LEP leaders have whittled down a list of four to two, one of which is understood to be in East Lancashire.
Bosses have previously earmarked Whitebirk in Blackburn and Burnley Bridge near Hapton as areas ripe for an enterprise zone bid.
The two sites could sustain thousands of jobs, Regenerate Pennine Lancashire believes.
Managing director Steve Hoyle said: “It is hugely competitive but we think we have a very good case.”
The LEP board will decide at a meeting on June 28.
