THE highest pop concert in the UK was held on Pendle Hill on Saturday.
Burnley band Steeros played a lunchtime gig to help raise funds for a new rescue base for the event’s organisers, Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team.
Covering songs by bands including the Manic Street Preachers, U2 and Oasis, the group played an hour-long set before the rescue team guided music fans safely back down the hill.
Team leader Andy Simpson said: “It was a mixed day.
"The number of people who turned up was a major disappointment.
"We only had 60 walkers and we were hoping for 1,000.
"But for those that did it was brilliant.
"We got all the kit up on top of the hill, the speakers, amps, instruments, a full drum kit, DJ decks, generators, even a Bratwurst sausage stall, so we were selling hot food up there.
"In that respect it was superb.
“We have also discovered that we can actually get vehicles three quarters of the way up the hill, which means in the future we can do more with rescues and get more equipment up.”
