A TESCO worker dashed between stores in two towns to raise money for charity.

Chris Newton, 29, of Oswaldtwistle, ran 23 miles from Blackburn Tesco to Burnley Tesco and back again for Whizz-kids.

His sponsor money will go to Tesco's chosen charity for the year, Whizz-kids, which provides customised mobility equip-ment for disabled children.

Chris's 23-mile run is one of numerous fund-raisers from Blackburn Tesco in Hill Street.

The night worker set himself the challenge in June and has trained alone every weekend.

He said: "I couldn't stay long at Burnley Tesco, I didn't want to seize up because I had to run back."

This was the longest distance Chris has run - 13 miles was his previous long-distance record.

Chris, who transferred to Blackburn from the Sheffield store in March, said: "I've been running for years, and have always wanted to do something for charity and this is a perfect chance to do both. It's about raising money for a worthwhile cause.

"My ambition is to do the London Marathon and this was a good test. It was a challenge.

"The distance from Burnley was challenging. There are nasty little hills on the way back.

"I didn't think the distance was quite as far but it was a challenge."
