TWO brothers who attacked their uncle, leaving him injured in his own home, are both starting jail terms.

Sudaqat Ali, of Nelson Street, Accrington, became embroiled in a drunken row with his uncle, and armed with a baton and knife, enlisted his 25-year-old brother Nazaquac Ali.

Victim Mohammed Chaudhry ended up with a fracture and cuts and had thought he was going to die after the beating at his house on Willows Lane, Accrington, in May last year.

Sudaqat Ali, 24, who Judge Andrew Gilbart, QC, said had a "clear propensity to use violence," was sent to prison for 28 months.

The defendant admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon and wounding.

Hollands Pies worker Nazaquac Ali, of Cotton Street, pleaded guilty to wounding and received 12 months.

Judge Gilbart said Nazaquac Ali was not a violent man and had been put in an impossible position through a sense of loyalty to his brother. The judge said the defendant had hit his uncle with a stick.

Tony Longworth, prosecuting, told the court that Sudaqat Ali had produced an extendable baton and challenged his uncle to fight.

He ripped off his T-shirt, hit out at the victim and Mr Chaudhry picked up a bottle of Budweiser as a deterrent.
