A CRASH involving two cars and a lorry caused chaos on the A56 in Edenfield today.
The driver of one of the cars had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped following the accident at around 11.15am.
And motorists were diverted after the southbound carriageway was closed to traffic as police and ambulance crews attended the incident.
The vehicles, including a Renault Scenic and a Vauxhall Astra, were moved onto the hard shoulder at around 12.15pm with one lane being re-opened.
Paramedics treated the driver of one of the vehicles at the scene before they were taken to Fairfield General Hospital in Bury in an ambulance.
Police said the injuries of the driver were not believed to be life threatening.
