A COLLEGE worker has pleaded with bosses to give her back her job after winning an unfair dismissal claim.
Emma Metcalf had been a learning support assistant at St Mary’s College in Blackburn, working with children who had learning difficulties, for four years.
But the 39-year-old, of The Ridings, Langho, was dismissed in May 2010 as part of a staff reorganisation.
An employment tribunal judge in Manchester said the technique used by the college to chose which staff would lose their jobs was ‘flawed’, and awarded her undisclosed damages.
But Judge Perry also said there was a ‘50 per cent’ chance that Mrs Metcalf would have lose her job even if the correct process had been carried out.
This finding reduced the size of the payout.
Mrs Metcalf said: “I won my case, but all I want is my job back.
"It was degrading having to go to court and my health deteriorated.
“It’s never been about the money. The principle was that it was done wrongly.
"I would have my job back tomorrow. I have not done anything wrong.”
St Mary’s College principal Kevin McMahon declined to comment.
