A TEENAGE girl was punched and kicked and had a mirror smashed over her head after going to assist her mother who was being beaten up.

Hyndburn magistrates heard Michael Black – the mum’s partner – carried on hitting and kicking the girl before grabbing her by the throat.

And the attack on mother and daughter only stopped when a relative who had been called by the girl came to their home.

Black, 44, of Markham Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting mum Alyson Standring and assaulting her daughter causing her actual bodily harm.

He was bailed for the preparation of a pre-sentence report with a warning that all options would be open to the bench.

Peter Wilde, prosecuting, said the couple had been out drinking and had gone home about 9.30pm with some Chinese food. The daughter had taken hers upstairs. There was an argument and Black attacked Mrs Standring who shouted out her daughter’s name.

“The daughter saw the defendant kneeling over her mum punching her,” said Mr Wilde. “When the girl tried to intervene he grabbed her by the hair and started punching and kicking her.”

Mum then tried to get him off her daughter and she was able to run to her own room. Black followed and started punching her again and then smashed the mirror over her head.

Michael Blacklidge, defending, said his client’s recollection of the incident was almost non-existent.

He said: “He has never been violent in any of his relationships and is racked with guilt and remorse. Following this incident he spent three weeks on the Ribblesdale Ward at Royal Blackburn Hospital.”
