A SCHOOL for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties has been rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted inspectors.

Darwen School, in Sudell Road, is an independent day school for up to 10 pupils aged between seven and 12.

There are currently seven children on the school roll.

All pupils are either in the care of a local authority or have a foster family.

The school opened in 2007 and is owned by the Keys Childcare group.

Inspector Honoree Gordon praised the structured curriculum and how outdoor education, including dry-slope skiing, helps further personal development.

She said that pupils’ progress was good and teachers included a “careful balance between theoretical and practical tasks”.

She also said: “The regular, therapeutic input from professionals to support pupils is a strength and underpins the work the school does to help pupils change their behaviour.”

She has asked the school to further promote pupils’ awareness of different faiths and cultures, as a way to improve.
