CORONATION Street's Norris Cole visited Whalley Abbey as part of a week-long celebration of Whalley which was called off due to bad weather.

Blackpool Circus clowns and owls could not perform because of the heavy rain and stalls packed up because their stock was blowing away.

The week had included a treasure hunt and a walk up Whalley Nab as well as other group activities aimed at bringing the community together.

But rain at the Abbey on Saturday dampened spirits and the stalls were forced to pack away by lunch time when the downpours increased.Organisers, which included the abbey.

Whalley Chamber of Trade and members of the community, said they expected to have lost money.

Coun Joyce Holgate said: "I think everyone has still enjoyed it. But it's a real shame we had to pack up."
