TWO bus services through Darwen have been hit by cuts.
Route D1, which travels from Darwen town centre to the Alex pub in Hindle Street, along Owlet Hall Road, Earnsdale Avenue, Earnsdale Road, then back to the town centre, will no longer run the last two services at 5.50pm and 6.15pm, Monday-Saturday.
Peter Graham, of operator Darwen Coach Services, said changes had been made reluctantly.
He said: “The route has not been scrapped and there are no plans to scrap it, but slight changes came into effect on Monday.
"The last two services will no longer run because of the removal of a subsidy from Blackburn with Darwen Council.
"We have fought very hard to keep services in Darwen, but now we’ve lost £100,000 in the cuts, and have had to make this move.”
Cuts have also affected the Lancashire United route 2, from Darwen to the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
The bus used to run every 30 minutes, but now only runs once per hour.
Bosses at Lancashire United said the reduction in frequency was because not enough people were using it to warrant the half-hour frequency.
