A 96-YEAR-OLD woman was pushed out of the way as a robber searched through her home and stole £1,000.

The thief called at the woman's home in Francis Street, Mill Hill, Blackburn, around 5pm on Wednesday and pretended to be from a gas company.

But shortly after being allowed inside her home, he pushed her out of the way and searched the upstairs rooms.

Police said the woman was shaken but unharmed after the incident.

Officers believe the robber may have tried to call at the woman's home 50 minutes earlier, but left after knocking at the door because she had a relative with her.

Det Sgt Mick Cross, of Blackburn CID, said: "We would like anyone with information to come forward."

The robber was described as white, in his 40s, 5ft5in tall, clean shaven, with short, brown hair.

He was of medium build.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Blackburn police on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
