A BLACKBURN pensioner said his fridge could ‘explode’ after receiving a letter from the manufacturer informing him of a fault.

Grandfather Eddie Duxbury, 80, received a letter from Beko telling him his fridge freezer had a faulty component prone to overheating.

The problem affects more than 30 of the company’s models issued between January 2000 and October 2006. A Beko engineer is to visit Mr Duxbury at his home in Queen Victoria Street to fix it on June 2.

“It is just a disgrace because we’ve had this fridge for years and all that time it has been dangerous. Now we’re worried that it'll blow up.” he said.

A Beko plc spokesperson, said: “Certain models of frost-free fridge freezers may in some circumstances, fail and overheat.”

He also urged customers to call 0800 009 4837.
