THE Dean of Blackburn’s son and his band are to play in front of 130,000 fans on the same bill as legends of rock.

Jon Armstrong set up Gugan Blues Shelter after moving to live in Indonesia in 2009.

Now they have been chosen to perform live in front of 130,000 music fans on the main stage of the Hard Rock Calling festival in London’s Hyde Park on June 25 after thousands of fans voted for them an international competition on the festival’s website.

Big name stars appearing at the event include Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and The Police.

The son of Blackburn Cathedral Dean the Very Rev Christopher Armstrong, Jon is particularly delighted to be on the same bill as one of his childhood heroes, Jon Bon Jovi.

Jon, 31, formerly of Preston New Road, said: “It's really unbelievable. I keep pinching myself to make sure I'm not hallucinating.

“Now we just can’t wait to get out on to that stage and show all of those fans who we are and what our music sounds like.”

The band specialise in electric blues-funk and have been highly acclaimed across South East Asia, rocking shows from Shanghai to Singapore as well as enjoying two mini UK tours in 2008 and 2009.

Jon plays bass in the three-piece band alongside drummer Aditya Wibowo and lead guitarist Gugun.

Since leaving the UK to be with Indonesian wife Nyanyak, Jon has become fluent in the language of Bahasa Indonesia and is the presenter of a daily live music programme on Indonesian TV.
