A NEW pocket-sized guide to the Pennine Way has been launched, providing walkers with information about the geography, nature and wildlife along the 268- mile route.
Produced by the Fields Studies Council, Features of the Pennine Way is a 12-page fold-out guide to the Pennine Way, parts of which go through Pendle.
Sections in the guide include descriptions of all sections of the trail, facts and figures on sheep farming throughout the year, the moorland code, nature in the Pennines and geology and types of plants, birds and animals likely to be seen en route.
Steve Westwood, Pennine Way National Trails Officer said: "This pocket-size guide is great news for walkers.
"They can leave all their bulky guide books at home and carry this handy point of reference with them instead."
The Pennine Way is the oldest National Trail in England, and is used by around 150,000 people a year.
The guide is priced £3.25 and is available from most tourist information offices close to the Pennine Way and from www.field-studies-council.org
