A man died in a road traffic collision in Haslingden last night.
The incident happened around 10.30pm on Grane Road outside the Holden Arms Public House.
A black BMW saloon being driven by a 43-year-old man was travelling towards Haslingden, when for unknown reasons his car crossed onto the opposite carriageway on a left hand bend.
The vehicle collided with a silver Ford Mondeo estate being driven towards Blackburn by a 50-year-old man from Suffolk.
The driver of the BMW, who lived in Rochdale and was originally from Accrington, was cut out of his car but died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The driver of the Mondeo, his 44-year-old female passenger and three-year-old child were taken by ambulance to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
The driver has received treatment for a fractured collarbone and his passenger was detained with a bleed on the kidneys. The child had no injuries.
Sergeant Mick Young, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "I would urge anybody that witnessed the collision and has yet to come forward to contact the police on 08451 25 35 45."
The road was closed for five hours while accident investigation was conducted.
