PETER Andre turned down the chance to appear at Accrington Carnival because the event is too successful.

Carnival organisers applied to appear on the Australian singer and reality TV star’s upcoming show Peter Andre: Here to Help.

ITV2 advertisements said that the programme’s makers were particularly interested in putting on a show where Peter helps turn around struggling carnivals, leading Accrington Lions to contact them for help.

They were initially considering coming to Accrington but ultimately decided that “there wouldn’t be a lot for him (Peter) to improve”.

An email to the carnival’s chairman said TV bosses had had a number of meetings considering the idea.

The email from assistant producer Naomi Channell said: “You have had celebrity guests, with good numbers turning up, good floats and raise good money, compared to a lot of other carnivals.

"So this may not be right for the show.

“Our bosses have looked online at pictures of your previous carnivals and they were so impressed they don’t see a problem.

“They were praising Accrington for the fact the community turn out to be part of the event and get involved, something that other events don’t have.”

Carnival’s chairman Tracy Simmonds said: “We do have a good plan B for the celebrity guest.

“And it was a very flattering compliment from ITV2.

“To be told that we have done such a good job that we are too good for Peter Andre is not something that we hear every day!”

Peter Andre: Here To Help is expected to broadcast on ITV2 this summer.
