A TEENAGER was left with a smashed skull after he was attacked on a night out in Rawtenstall, a court heard.

Luke Harper, 18, was left unconscious and then hospitalised for two weeks following the street attack by Robin Connolly and Callum Hennessey, Burnley Crown Court was told.

The teenager hit his head on the ground after being hit by Connolly and doctors feared at first he might suffer from memory loss or a personality change, before he made a recovery.

Prosecutor Mark Lamberty said Connolly and Hennessey had exchanged words with Mr Harper.

Connolly accidentally urinated on the victim, a scuffle followed, during which Mr Harper was assaulted.

Connolly, 20, of School Street, Goodshaw, admitted assault and was given 20 months detention by Recorder Dennis Watson QC.

Hennessey, 18, of Grane Road, Haslingden, who also punched Mr Harper but did not cause the eventual injury, admitted battery and was given a 12-month community order, with 80 hours community service.

Keith Harrison, defending Connolly, said he did not intend the injury to Mr Harper and was remorseful for hias behaviour.

The court heard Connolly, already the subject of a suspended sentence order, was on bail for burgling a house in Westwood Street, Accrington, with Christopher Blackburn, 20, and Daniel Dwyer, 27.

Dwyer, of Dowry Street, Accrington, admitted his third house burglary and was jailed for two years and 30 weeks.

Blackburn, of Charles Lane, Haslingden, was given 12 months in a young offenders’ institution, suspended for 18 months, with 120 hours community service and 12 months supervision, after also admitting burglary.
