A TERRIFIED animal lover has spoken of the moment she had to pull her family pet from the jaws of two dogs.
Betty Mossop, rescued her border collie, Monty, as it was attacked by two ‘very large’ Staffordshire-type dogs during an evening walk in the Robin Bank area.
Police are now investigating the incident and looking for a man who was with the dogs as they savaged the pet.
Ms Mossop, of Nelson Street, Darwen, had been walking her pet and her neighbour’s dog, Tilly, at around 10.20pm last Saturday when she let them off their leads.
Moments later, she heard a man screaming, ‘Come here Max!’ “I ran towards the shouting and saw these big dogs with muzzles on and they were running after Monty and Tilly. Then they had Monty pinned to the floor and they were biting his face. It was horrific,” she said.
“I was in total shock so I didn’t get a chance to speak to the man. I just wanted to get Monty home because his white bib was covered in blood and he was shaking.”
The side of his mouth had been ripped open and he also needed stitches in his ear.
Police said they had conducted door-to-door inquiries.
A spokesman said: “We will be looking into this and will also be informing the council dog warden.”
