THREE pals from the Stop N Rest pub in Blackburn have raised more than £1,500 for the Lancashire Telegraph’s Raise the Roof appeal.

Sam Duckett, Paul Jolly and Josh Newell walked 30 miles from Brandy House Brow to Haydock Park Racecourse in St Helens.

They set off at 3am on Friday, arriving at the course at 1.15pm.

They decided to complete the trek in aid of a new roof over the East Lancs hospice’s unit after reading about it in the paper.

Landlord Kevin Cassidy said: “They all managed to do it, but it was a big ask because these lads are not athletes, they’re just normal.

“Their feet were a mess at the end, and Paul had to have a lie down in a van when he got to the end, but they achieved what they wanted to.”

A presentation night event is due to take place in a fortnight’s time.
