KELLY BROOK does it; Lindsay Lohan has admitted to it and Gok Won is a fan.

And now the latest fashion trend of swishing has hit the streets of East Lancashire.

Swishing is the art of swapping clothes, giving women a cheaper, more fun, eco-friendly and ethical way to update their wardrobes.

And the biggest swishing event to be held in the area is tomorrow night at The Ace Centre, Nelson.

Swish For Victory, in aid of Women’s Aid, is the first fundraiser for new events company Girl’s Guide, set up by graphic designer Andy Pawlicki and his partner Nicole Morgan.

Nicole, who is also manager at The Ace Centre, is urging women who have had their own clothes swapping parties among friends to take part on a larger scale.

Swishing allows you to look great without spending a penny or harming the planet.

Nicole said: “Swishing is very popular in London and some other big cities but in smaller towns, especially in the north, it only really exists within a few small friendship groups. This is the first event of its size in this area and we’d like it to be the first of many.

“I hope the event will be quite a social affair where women in the area can make new friends and it not just be about grabbing some clothes and going.

“I’ve filled up three bags of my own clothes already so there’ll be plenty to go around. My favourite pieces are a vintage '60s leopard print coat and a polka dot tea dress. They don’t fit any more and so I don’t wear them.

“That’s what swishing is all about. There’s no point something sitting in your wardrobe when it can go to a new home and you can get something new in return.”

The rules for tomorrow night are simply to bring along at least one piece of clothing or accessory from that guilty corner of your closet and enjoy the swish.

Alongside the eco-fashion will be tea and home-made cakes. There will also be a raffle with a range of prizes, including the most expensive perfume in the world by Clive Christian, sold at nearly £500 per 50ml.
