DOZENS of well-wishers braved the wind and rain for a civic parade through Blackburn’s town centre yesterday.
To mark Councillor Karimeh Foster becoming the new Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, a procession led by a brass band, left Northgate at 11am and made its way to Blackburn Cathedral for a special service starting 15 minutes later.
The service saw prayers offered for Coun Foster’s work in the forthcoming municipal year.
Afterwards, flanked by police escorts, the procession reassembled and wend its way along the Boulevard.
The deputy mayor for the year is Labour councillor Zamir Khan.
