A PROBE has been launched into claims tens of thousands of pounds worth of goods have been stolen from a farm shop in an organised theft.

Huntley's in Samlesbury may have been targeted two or three times a week over the last two years, bosses fear.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and released on bail.

Staff at the farm studied CCTV footage when they became suspicious after a number of items and cash went missing.

Owner Eddie Cowpe, said: “Items stolen include a large amount of cash, wine and power tools worth tens of thousands of pounds.

"It came to our attention after I instructed staff to count the till floats twice a day and then we examined the CCTV footage.

"We will be fully assisting the police in their investigations."

The 750sq ft site boasts a 200-seater restaurant, working organic farm shop, with a butchery and fishmongers, Barrica wines shop, Cosgrove’s fashion store, a nine-acre outdoor maze and a furniture shop.

Police confirmed that they had arrested a 27-year-old man from Walton-le-Dale on suspicion of burglary with intent to steal and possession of cannabis.

He has been released on police bail until July 19.

He was arrested in relation to an alleged offence between May 12 and May 20 but police said further inquiries are being made in connection with a number of other allegations.

A spokesperson for the Lancashire Constabulary, said: "We have launched an investigation and we are looking at a number of different incidents at the site involving theft and we will be carrying out a number of inquiries."
