Blackburn Rovers fans were relieved and jubilant last night after victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers guaranteed Premier League football again next season.

With owners the Rao brothers watching from the stands, Steve Kean’s team put in one of their best displays of the season to win three-two.

After the a huge collective sigh of relief, supporters’ thoughts turned towards what promises to be an exciting summer with Venky’s pledging significant investment in the team.

Dan Clough, 24, of the newly-formed Blackburn Rovers Supporters’ Trust, said: “It was great to win and stay up, but they made us suffer a bit in the last 10 minutes.

“Next season, all I want is a couple of good signings and not another relegation battle. We don’t want to go through this again!”

Blackburn MP Jack Straw, who is in Texas for his son’s wedding, watched with friends and family in Fados Irish Bar in the city of Austin.

He said: “We had the Blackburn match on a TV in one corner, the Blackpool match on in another corner, and the Birmingham match in another, so the tension surrounded us.

“It was a great result and the best I’ve seen them play all season. Next season I hope we build on today’s result and claim a solid top 10 finish.”

Blackburn superbike legend Carl Fogarty agreed the performance was excellent.

He added: “It’s great for the club and great for the town. Next season will be Kean’s first full season as a manager, and to end up in the top half would be fantastic.”

Former Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Mike Lee, who is a season ticket holder, said: “It is fantastic. Now they need to put some money into the club, and I hope they keep some of the good players.”
