THERE has been an increase in the number of people claiming job seekers’ allowance (JSA) in East Lancashire.
The claimant count for April was 12,123, up from 12,106 the previous month.
Nationally the number of people claiming JSA rose by 12,400 to 1.47 million, although the total out of work fell for the second quarter in a row.
The JSA figures for March in East Lancashire were: Blackburn with Darwen 3,976; Burnley 2,423; Pendle 1,933; Hyndburn 1,913; Rossendale 1,448; Ribble Valley 430.
