FOUR chefs settled an argument over who cooks the best chilli by holding a cook-off in Blackburn to raise money for charity.

The public were asked to sample and vote for their favourite chilli at the event at the Chilli Lime Deli in Fleming Square, Blackburn.

The four chefs, Peter Horrocks, Stephen O'Hara, Adam Franklin and Nick Morant, slaved over hot stoves to raise money for homeless charity Nightsafe and Age Concern.

Alongside them giving them expert advice and taste-testing the four dishes was Mexican deli owner and author Doug Bell.

The cooks took over the square in front of the shop and cooked al fresco..

Stephen O'Hara was crowned champion for his traditional Mexican-inspired chilli.

Owner of the Chilli Lime Deli John Caffrey, who organised the chilli challenge vowed to hold the event next August Bank Holiday and said his aim was to make it bigger and better.

He said: "The event went really well. There was good banter between the chefs and soon large crowds gathered when the cooking smells travelled.

"It's been great fun."

A raffle was also held on the day and the event raised £250 to be divided between the two charities.
