A BURNLEY lad is hoping to scale the heights of the world for charity - and boost his community at the same time.

Dutiful Shaun Foxcroft, 21, of Kime Street, is aiming to reach the base camp of Everest as the pinnacle of his fundraising for Scope.

For by the time he completes the 18,000 foot climb, he will have already taken part in a raft of fundraising events, from a seven-a-side football tournament to sponsored walks for businesses and schools.

Shaun today said why he was taking on the series of tasks."I thought it was time for us to start helping each other instead of only helping ourselves," he said.

He was inspired to carry out his charity event marathon after undergoing a self development programme with the Prince's Trust, and seeing an advert in a fitness magazine promoting the expedition for Scope, a charity which aims to help people with cerebral palsy.

Shaun is taking this admirable quality even further when he returns from the expedition, as he aims to help others do as he did.

He said: "I am going with a team this time, but I want to find out what it takes so then I can start a group and help other people go and raise money for the charity as well.

"I want to inspire people to do great things, as I have been inspired, so they can help other people and gain confidence themselves."

He aims to create a "mini-World Cup", before the trip, between 16 teams, where each player will have to make a donation of at least £5 to go towards the charity and is hoping to make £3,500 from the events prior to the great expedition.

This will then lead up to the trip to Everest, which will hopefully help to create a total donation of up to £10, 000.
