ELDERLY people in Barnoldswick are upset after being told they will have to travel to Nelson to renew their bus pass.

Town councillor Jennifer Purcell has stepped in after being told that NoWcard renewals would no longer be dealt with at the Council Shop, in the Post Office Buildings in Station Road.

She said many OAPs were disappointed they would face an extra journey to obtain replacement cards.

Tony Moreton, the county council’s assistant director of sustainable transport, claimed the authority was trying to make card renewals easier.

He added: "People can call the NoWcard helpline or go online to request a paper application form and apply by post. In Pendle, people can also complete their application at the county council’s customer access points at Market Street in Nelson, Nelson Interchange and by using the TellyTalk terminal in the Yarnspinners Health Centre.” Mr Moreton said talks were ongoing about providing paper forms at district council offices.
