VANDALS could force a popular playground to close.
North Turton councillor Jean Rigby is ‘mortified’ that cushioned flooring at Chapeltown Playground, near St Anne’s Church, has been ruined.
She said: “We don’t have many problems in this area, but over the last month local children have been picking at the spongy flooring, and wrecking it.It costs hundreds to replace and at the moment, the council just don’t have the money to keep doing it. If it carries on, then they might have to close the playground.”
Coun Rigby secured £35,000 funding to renovate the playground five years ago, and fit it out with hi-tech play equipment.
She added: “I desperately want to get a message out to children and their parents that this is their park, not mine, and they need to respect it.
