AN event to raise awareness of autism takes place in Sunnyhurst Wood on Saturday, April 2.
June Halstead, 45, whose son has the condition, set up the Together With Autism Group 10 months ago. Now, 70 families from throughout the borough attend monthly meetings for support and information.
June, of Darwen, said: “There are about 230 families in the borough affected by autism. It’s a big thing.
The event on April 2 is to raise awareness and to raise money for the group, so that we can get the children together on an activity day of some kind.
We haven’t had chance to celebrate our success so far, so it will be very special.”
The event runs from 11am to 2pm from the Visitors’ Centre in Earnsdale Road.
Activities such as a human train through the woods, games and face-painting will feature together with stalls.
