Fiona Wilson, 50, of Clayton-le-Woods, chose to give away 48 copies of The Life Of Pi on the first World Book Night on Saturday.
She gave 12 books to daughter Emily, a volunteer at Christie’s hospital who will pass them on to patients.
Fiona’s son Chris gave 12 copies to schoolfriends with the rest given out by Fiona.
The unprecedented industry-wide initiative to celebrate adult books and reading saw each of the participants, including hundreds in Lancashire, give away 48 books.
